About us
Who are we?
History
Most Caledonian maintenance companies focused their activities on SLN, which was then the only metallurgical company operating in the Territory.
However, since 2006, two and then three nickel processing plants have been established in New Caledonia. Their construction brought the arrival of many external companies. But construction is one thing; maintenance is another.
As a result, a small group of companies began to consider how they could provide the three international-level plants with the maintenance skills they needed, ensuring that this work could be carried out by local companies rather than external ones.
At the same time, the French government launched a call for projects to create business clusters, an initiative relayed by the South Province.
Through the combination of these two events, and after eight months of reflection and work to prepare an application file, the AMD cluster was created and officially recognized at the end of 2010. This provided an initial response to the concerns of business leaders who wanted to defend the interests of local companies and, in doing so, serve the long-term interests of their country in the maintenance sector.
Their ambition? To structure the maintenance sector in New Caledonia.
AMD’s objectives and missions
The AMD business cluster developed a strategy, revised in 2019, based on five main pillars:
Collaborative performance
Improve business performance and competitiveness through the development of collaborative tools.
Talent development
Work on human resources at the heart of maintenance professions and support the development of their skills.
Local visibility
Showcase the expertise of local companies to industrial and institutional stakeholders.
Innovation and technology
Create added value through innovation and technology.
International outlook
Develop international relationships to draw on best practices while increasing our visibility.
AMD carries out all of its actions in line with these five pillars, while upholding its core values: cohesion, guidance, expertise, innovation, and resource sharing.
However, the maintenance sector does not exist only within the metallurgical industries, but also serves other industries such as agri-food, manufactured products, as well as the tertiary and construction sectors.
After receiving funding from the French government during its first three years, in accordance with the call for projects, AMD is now supported by the South Province and the North Province for its operations, by the Government of New Caledonia for targeted projects, and of course by its members, who represent the various maintenance professions.

Message from the President
Dear members, partners, and supporters,
On behalf of the new board, I would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in us so that AMD can continue its mission: structuring the maintenance sector in New Caledonia.
I would also like to thank the members of the outgoing board — Christian C, Christian B, Gilles, Luc, Rod, and especially Jean Patrick — whose dedication and commitment have enabled our association to grow and fulfill its mission.
The difficulties faced by all our companies at the beginning of 2024 have highlighted our strong dependence on the nickel sector. It is vital that we actively contribute to its survival and renewal, while also helping to build a more diversified economy in New Caledonia. This will therefore be our new challenge for the years ahead. There is no doubt that, together, we will be able to find sustainable solutions.
Thank you all for your support, your commitment, and your professionalism. We are here to listen to you. Let us make this saying our own: alone, we may sometimes go faster; together, we go further. It is now up to us to prove it.
